AWAKE e.V. is a non-profit organization founded in April 2016 by three young women. Since then, AWAKE has grown into a global community with the support of young professionals worldwide. The name AWAKE Global Community summarizes our vision. We want to create awareness of the worldwide interrelatedness of socio-economic challenges and join forces to find solutions. We aim to inspire as many people as possible to become part of our mission. Thus, we awaken the sense of a global community across borders.

WATER IS A HUMAN RIGHT
HOW IT ALL STARTED
The work of AWAKE started in the public elementary school, Doña Socorro, in Los Girasoles. Two of our founding members were confronted with the lack of drinking water for the school children. As a result, the kids, who had barely half a liter of drinking water for an 8-hour school day, suffered from severe dehydration and, thus, a lack of concentration. Hence, we decided to help the children and kicked off our pilot project - Drinking Water for Doña Socorro.

SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATION
After implementing our first project at the primary school Doña Socorro, we decided to continue working with local communities whenever possible. Most of us were still studying then, initially leading to collaboration with Udayana University in Indonesia and Astika Dharma Community Center. We then worked with Kassumay and People of Hope in Senegal, Condrik in Tenerife, and Cabarete Sostenbile in the Dominican Republic. Throughout these programs, our focus extended. In addition to bringing clean and safe drinking water to school children, we started engaging more profoundly with the overall needs of local communities and the ecological environment.
Today, we support projects addressing the sustainable transformation of human-environmental relationships.
